To save the city of Krakow, they build a building fort around the city including the Wawel Castle on the hill which still stands today.

In 1978, Old Town and Wawel Castle has been recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site. From Old Town Square, we can walk through the gardens and old buildings leads to Wawel Castle on a hilltop overlooking the Vistula River. The view from there is very pretty and could see most of the city of Krakow.
